HELP SEWARD PARK FLOURISH — DONATIONS ARE MATCHED THROUGH THE SUMMER!

Through ioby's 2023 NYC Green Fund, Seward Park Conservancy had been gifted up to $3,000 in matching fund to help our park flourish!

Your donation helps us nurture our Seward Park community with native & weather resistant plants to keep Seward Park green and community events to bring all ages together!

Every dollar you give will have double the impact:

  • $25 funds child-friendly trowels and gloves for community planting days
  • $50 provides new native plants for the park
  • $100 funds supplies to tend to our meadow throughout the year
  • $250 supports our Seward Park Conservancy Gardener to nurture the park

Grow your gift this summer and help us meet our match!

MEET OUR SUMMER FELLOWS

We are thrilled to introduce our Seward Park Summer Associates: Phoebe, Joseph, and Bingjie! On the weekends, they are helping care for the garden and meadow my watering, mulching, and tending to the plants. With the record high temperatures this summer, it is fantastic to have more hands on deck to help our plants combat the heat.

Phoebe, Joseph, and Bingjie are local high school students interested in supporting their community and preserving the city's green spaces. Thanks to your support, we are able to provide them monthly stipends for their hard work. This is our inaugural year running this program and we look forward to bringing it back next Summer!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR MEADOW?
TREE FALL & SOLARIZATION

Last month one of our older trees fell in the meadow, taking with it a significant number of plants. Luckily no one was hurt and we were able to work with the NYC Parks Department to protect the remainder of the meadow. While this could have been devastating to the pollinators who call our meadow home, our gardener Austin is using  it as an opportunity to diversify the plant life to attract more bees, butterflies, and fauna.

To prep the ground for our new plants, Austin in utilizing a process called Solarization. By covering the ground in a plastic sheet, he is harnessing the sun's heat and energy to kill previously established plants, weeds, and seeds in the soil. We have created a video about the process — watch here and follow us on Instagram to stay up to date in our progress.
